A Journeyman Forever in our Hearts

This site is a tribute site to Paul Fry who sadly passed at the age of 67, on 22 December 2023. Paul was a dedicated career man who worked hard to achieve everything he dreamed of. Please leave memories, photos and tributes for us to share. There are links in some of the picture descriptions to his digital work, with the idea that this site be a central hub to his career.

Thoughts

I am so sad to hear that we have lost our dear lovely wonderful Paul. He and I have been friends for over fifty years – since I was a junior photographer in Stevenage and he started as a young trainee reporter. We got ourselves into more tangles than you could ever imagine as reporter and photographer ! Everyone loved Paul – a great writer, brilliant journalist, easy with people, professional, passionate, thoroughly decent, a true gentleman – all wrapped up in a wicked sense of humour and a cheeky smile. He was an absolute joy to be around – on the newsdesk, out on a story, or at The Red Hart downing a pint or two. He was one of the kindest, most generous, amazing people I have ever known. A shining beacon and an absolute legend (apart from all those excruciating jokes of course.) The world is an emptier place without you, mate. I miss you. Nick X

It was really shocking to learn of Paul Fry's death at such a young age. I always regarded him as one of the younger generation compared to many of us. An extremely talented individual and, though it was all a long time ago, I remember him as having a 'can-do' attitude and nothing was ever too much trouble for him. Big loss when he moved to the Mail and I have no doubt that his ability contributed a great deal to that title's success. RIP Paul.

- It's funny the things that stick in your head. Paul was working with John Watson on features, and he produced artwork for a page that was really terrific. I think it may have been for a Cheltenham Gold Cup preview, and Paul had the three market leaders for the race expertly cut out to make it look as if they were all jumping the last fence together. It was a great idea and worked brilliantly. It was certainly ahead of its time.
