I am so sad to hear that we have lost our dear lovely wonderful Paul. He and I have been friends for over fifty years – since I was a junior photographer in Stevenage and he started as a young trainee reporter. We got ourselves into more tangles than you could ever imagine as reporter and photographer ! Everyone loved Paul – a great writer, brilliant journalist, easy with people, professional, passionate, thoroughly decent, a true gentleman – all wrapped up in a wicked sense of humour and a cheeky smile. He was an absolute joy to be around – on the newsdesk, out on a story, or at The Red Hart downing a pint or two. He was one of the kindest, most generous, amazing people I have ever known. A shining beacon and an absolute legend (apart from all those excruciating jokes of course.) The world is an emptier place without you, mate. I miss you. Nick X
